Audi will compete in the attention frenzy
surrounding the Super Bowl next month with a commercial featuring its
first fully electric vehicle, the e-tron crossover.
New
Audi of America President Mark Del Rosso said on a conference call with
journalists Friday that the German luxury brand would return to the
NFL"s championship game in 2019, "only this time, it"s electric."
Audi last advertised during the Super Bowl in 2017, the end of a run of annual appearances in the big game that began with a 2008 spot for the R8, spokesman Mark Dahnke said.
Based
on teaser images, the as-yet-unrevealed commercial will feature not
only the e-tron, but the e-tron GT fastback concept that was first shown
at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, as well as a third unidentified
vehicle.
The e-tron made its world debut in San Francisco in September. The first of several EVs coming from Audi, the e-tron
crossover features all-wheel drive and a 95-kilowatt-hour battery pack.
Audi has been accepting reservations for the e-tron since late
September. Customer deliveries are expected to begin this year.
The
2019 e-tron will have a range of just under 250 miles, based on the
Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure used in Europe. It
will come in two standard trims as well as a special First Edition model
limited to 999 vehicles. Pricing starts at $75,795 for the base Premium
Plus trim and jumps to $82,795 for the higher Prestige trim level. The
First Edition model has a starting price of $87,695. All prices include
shipping.
